Welcome to my website! My name is Casey Robb and I was once a physical therapist and later a civil engineer, but always a lover of poetry and story.
In the 1990's, I was fortunate to land in a wonderful poetry critique group with three expert mentors who guided me in the craft of poetry.
I never liked the obscure academic poetry, the type you can't figure out what the heck they're trying to say. Reminded me of The Emperor's New Clothes.
My timing was perfect, as I was swept up in a new movement called Neo-Formalism which was bringing back the forms (sonnets, villanelles, etc.) for modern subjects. In this medium, I thrived, and many of my poems were published and won awards, including two trophies at statewide poetry conventions.
During that poetry time, I also quietly tried my hand at short stories, but with no critique groups or mentors. When my first kid arrived and I became a busy mom, I put the stories away. Years later, when the kids were older, I found the stories in a box. It was like finding old friends -- Rainbow and Homer, Chuck the Buck, and Mandy, the wacky girl. What fun!
Over the next few years, I joined an online fiction critique group, improved the stories and submitted them, and the journal acceptances started coming in. And I was hooked.
Each story has a bit of memoir ... but I won't say which part! Ha, ha! That's the beauty of fiction. Enjoy!
